Its very name means "water," yet Nicaragua faces a drinking water crisis...
The poorest Nicaraguan citizens and most remote barrios face life-threatening danger every day they drink the dirty and often contaminated water from their hand-dug wells. Facing harsh soil conditions and economic obstacles, Nicaraguans need clean water. They need your help!

... is an opportunity for small and robust clubs as well as individuals to participate in the Nicaraguan Water Well Drilling Program, a viable and vital international project started in 2000 by The Rotary Club of Tulsa. The goal is to provide potable water to the poor who live in the barrios of Nicaragua. We encourage each Rotary Club to sponsor one or more wells to help save and change thousands of lives.

For each $1,000 contribution, your Rotary Club will receive:

• The goodwill of a grateful rural neighborhood, where clean water wells mean better health, shorter walks, lighter retrieval loads and children tasting clear water for the first time in their lives
A certificate, suitable for framing, showing the well's location by GPS coordinates
A photograph of a representative well site with local residents, suitable for publication
• Details on the communities and inhabitants benefitting from newly found clean water
• A listing on www.OwnAWell.com
• A copy of the Trip Summary

How the money is spent: The Own-A-Well Program is a sound investment of your charitable dollars. Literally giving hands and feet to your generosity in communities in dire need. 100% of your Own-A-Well contribution goes directly to the cost of drilling the wells. The administrative and fund-raising expenses are paid by Rotary Clubs in Tulsa, OK, and other Rotary Clubs throughout the Rotary World. The program's major support has come from The Rotary Club of Tulsa, The Rotary Foundation and other clubs within Rotary District No. 6110. In addition, important financial support has come from Rotary Clubs throughout the U.S.A.
